Chocolate covered Dancer!

Jul 8, 2014 at 1:07 AM

It's been a while since we've had a new Chocolate Covered Records release. Our bank account has dwindled into a negative balance and our warehouse is overflowing with huge piles of unsold merchandise. So we've decided to turn this ship around and try a new business model. From this point forward, we are only releasing FUCKING GREAT RECORDS!

So to kick it off, we present a new 7" by Dancer - Rootbeer Station! It's 3 tracks of the best San Francisco rock 'n roll. Give it a listen, 'cause this is the shit! (And not the crap we've released before!)

It's time for a new release!

Oct 11, 2011 at 6:47 AM

You didn't think you'd ever see us again, did you? Well, thanks to a couple of new rock and roll bands in San Francisco, we can't help ourselves from releasing a new split 7". The Shrouds and The Hondettes do garage and they do surf, and they do it in a way that's real: left-over guitars, blown-out amps, drum kits from the thrift store, and vocals that may not know the tune, but definitely know the sound. Its straight from their garage to your ears.

Come Visit the Village!

Oct 2, 2010 at 6:14 PM

The Rantouls LP has finally arrived!

Its 10 full songs from the best pop band of the last... well, ever. Get your copy of In the Village of Rantoul right now! Really.

Oh yeah, we are having a bit of a party at the Chocolate Covered Records Factory tonight in celebration. Get in your car as fast as you can, 'cause the bands are gonna start at 10. Or, if your journey would require a quick trip to the local airport, you can watch it live via the internet tubes.

Chocoled Covered Record Fairy

Jun 22, 2010 at 11:43 PM

Chocolate Covered Records is going to be at the Absolutely Kosher Label Faire on Sunday, June 27th selling what's left of our junk for cheap prices.

Come pick up duplicates of all of your favorite CCR 7"s for only 4 bucks each and grab a bad ass T-shirt for whatever change you have left in your pocket! I'm guessing there will be some other Bay Area labels there, but all their stuff is gonna be too expensive for you cheapskates!

For all of you who don't have a job and have lost track of what day today is, just use Facebook to remind you.

RANTOUL NEWS The LP is ready to go! We have the 10 best tracks the Rantouls could give us and are having them squeezed onto vinyl platters as we speak. More info to come shortly...

The Rantouls Fun Pack has arrived!

Sep 27, 2009 at 1:17 PM

What is Chocolate Covered Records going to do with a bunch of Rantouls junk that no one wants?

Give it away?? you ask. No! That would be stupid!

Instead, we made the Rantouls Fun Pack by combining all that crap with the Frontier Villagers 45 (as played by the Rantouls) and are selling it for only 30 bucks including shipping. (And listen up all you cheapskates from Canada and Europe, you have to pay extra for shipping!)

We only have 25 of these, so get 'em quick! Our operators are standing by.

More new stuff for July!

Jun 30, 2009 at 9:46 PM

Chocolate Covered Records is like an unstoppable record-releasing freight train! We're throwing another hit record by another great band onto the already impressive heap. The Saucy Jacks are about to blow everyone's minds with their debut single, Blown Like a Kiss, and poised to take over the country with their US tour starting at the end of the month.

Feel like you can't keep up with the choco-locomotive? Don't worry, it's easy! Pick up the third issue of Chocolate Covered Magazine, then sit back and relax as you catch up on all the latest choco-news.

Ty Segall Delivers Records at Halloween Party!

Nov 3, 2008 at 1:45 AM

Can the Chocolate Covered Records store keep up with Ty Segall's promiscuity? We're trying... really trying. We tracked down 3 more of his bastard children: Ty's Skin and Party Fowl 7"s on Italian label Good Bye Boozy and Ty's LP on Castle Face. We think It is the prettiest of the bunch, but you'll need to have 'em all to judge for yourself.

And Ty, thanks for playing the party!

In non-Ty Segall related news, rumors are floating around about Chocolate Covered Records releasing something by one of our absolute favorites, No Bunny. Hopefully there's some truth to this and it wasn't just a night of drunken false promises.

It's on!

Oct 3, 2008 at 12:11 PM

Having just returned from his East Coast tour, Ty Segall stepped off the plane to find his new 7", simply titled It, waiting for him. What timing! It's available! It's amazing! Buy It! It will make you popular!

And if that's not enough to get you salivating, hear the ringing bell of the second issue of Chocolate Covered Magazine, the bay area garage community's favorite thing to read in the bathroom.

Ty Segall in San Francisco

Aug 12, 2008 at 10:47 PM

This is a great video of Ty Segall performing last weekend at Amnesia. Ty's first vinyl release will be out really fucking soon on CCR... and hopefully before Ty's tour next month with Thee Oh Sees.

Time to Chug-a-lug with the Rantouls

Jul 30, 2008 at 11:47 PM

Hot off the presses, the first release by Sunnyvale, California's only remaining Bubblegum band, the Rantouls. These four songs will get so stuck in your head that you'll be playing Chug-A-Lug over and over and over again. Get ready to buy a new record needle!

And if you haven't been lucky enough to see the Rantouls' matching outfits in person, you should definitely grab a copy of The Psychedelic Freakout DVD. Its got both a live performance and a music video by the Rantouls with performances by other Bay Area favorites.

Traditional Fools LP available!

Jul 6, 2008 at 7:54 PM

It wasn't finished before the Fools' US tour started, but its here now. Wizard Mountain / Make A Mess teamed up to release the Traditional Fools first LP. Hopefully we'll get some at the Chocolate Covered Factory soon, but in the mean time, grab the LP at Wizard Mountain.

Update: We now have the Traditional Fools LP available at the Chocolate Covered Factory.

Nov 13, 2007 at 1:00 PM

The Stork Club will be having an ultra-exclusive rock and roll dance party tonight featuring Dreamdate, the Rantouls, Les Hormones, and DJs Dulcinea and the Duke of Windsor.

If you want to get in tonight, all you have to do is say "I love/hate Chocolate Covered Records", show the door guy your ID and give him 5 bucks. You don't even want to know how much those fools who don't say the secret phrase will be paying!

And don't use all your energy tonight - there are even more great shows this weekend.

Dreamdate spotted at CMJ in New York?

Oct 22, 2007 at 2:50 AM

No, no, Dreamdate wasn't in New York last week. Instead, Anna and Yea-Ming were cooling-out and watching the Traditional Fools play a surprise set at Carlos' house party in Oakland. But Mates of State brought Dreamdate to a city of 10 trillion people with their cover of Why Don't You Make Me?.

Check out a video of Mates of State covering Dreamdate.

Chocolate Covered Records back in business!

Oct 7, 2007 at 6:26 PM

After months of planning, delays, and outages, Chocolate Covered Records has officially opened up our new shipping and manufacturing facility in San Francisco, California. Contentious labor disputes have been resolved and our entire staff is again working 18 hours a day to make all those records you love so much!

And in case you didn't know, we have devoted an entire squadron of workers to hand-crafting the all new Rantouls 3 song 45. Expect it to be out well after you read this...

Chocolate Covered weekend!

Aug 29, 2007 at 8:28 PM

Screw labor day weekend, it's all about the weekend after that.  the Traditional Fools are playing all ages shows on both sides of the bay with fellow chocolate covered recording artists, Dreamdate and the Rantouls.

Traditional Fools 7" Still Available

Jul 11, 2007 at 11:47 AM

Believe it or not, several Traditional Fools records survived the record release party last Sunday. The Rantouls, No Bunny, and the Okmoniks were gettin' the crowd anxious for a crazy, beer-soaked set by the Traditional Fools. Wanna see pictures from the show?

And here is a reminder to check out the Fools' "Street Surfin'" video if you haven't seen it.

Traditional Fools 7" Out Now!

Jul 5, 2007 at 2:33 PM

Our second release is now available for mail order!  It's the debut 7" of the the Traditional Fools.  If you don't have a turntable, mp3s are also available for purchase, but if you buy the vinyl, you get the mp3s anyway!  Check out our shows page for info on the record release show this weekend.

Dreamdate at Amoeba and Traditional Fools 7" at the presses

May 15, 2007 at 10:48 PM

Dreamdate has been cordially invited to get fucking crazy at an Amoeba in-store performance. Will they live up to their "bad girl" reputations? Or will they instead shower the audience with sugary sweet pop melodies? You'll have to head to Amoeba on June 1st to find out.

And just about the time of that show, Chocolate Covered Records should have our hands on our second release - a 7" by the Traditional Fools. The mailman handed us the test pressings today and we are thinking we need to up our order to 100,000 of these babies. This one is going gold, for sure!

And don't you dare forget Zebratron.

Dreamdate made it back from tour, so why not take photos?

Apr 9, 2007 at 1:23 AM

Dreamdate celebrated their return home for their West Coast tour with Bay Area friends the Pets and the Rantouls. Take a look at the photos and listen to the Pets rockin' along with our other MP3s.

And if you think Chocolate Covered Records needs a better photographer, you are right! Sign up today to put me out of my misery!

Dreamdate beats Hell's Angels for "Coolest" in Oakland!

Mar 31, 2007 at 3:45 AM

If you aren't a Hell's Angel, the Dreamdate CD release show at the Uptown was the place to be on Friday night. The Traditional Fools played a double set, Social Studies had the indie drones swaying to every song, Harold Ray's mustache absorbed enough upper lip sweat to make a Brazilian rain forest jealous, and Dreamdate left the show with dozens of boys' phone numbers in hand.

Couldn't make it and terrified you missed something awesome? Wanna tell your friends you were there? Fear not! Harley ridin' leather daddies and Friday night movie watchers can still check out some of last night's photos and listen to Dreamdate playing live in our MP3 section. And if you need stories to prove you were there, it'll all be in Chocolate Covered Magazine #2. In the meantime, pick up Chocolate Covered Magazine #1 and brag to your friends about seeing the Armitage Shanks in Alameda and touring the East Coast with the Makes Nice.

Our First Release!

Mar 16, 2007 at 4:38 PM

The debut CD of Dreamdate, that indie-girl-dance-pop trio that's found their way into so many hearts, is the first official release by Chocolate Covered Records. To celebrate, they'll have a full-blown CD release show on March 30th at the Uptown, followed by a brief tour of the west coast. If they're not coming to your town, don't sweat: Come Over Now is available for mail-order through this very website (contact us if you are outside the US or want to purchase huge quantities of CDs at a discount). As an added bonus for you digital CD purchasers out there, the CD includes all the MP3s for the entire album, plus a bonus MP3 track!

Music on a record label website!

Jan 3, 2007 at 11:35 PM

Music is always second priority here at Chocolate Covered Records. Our first priority is gigantic profits. And you, our loyal customer. Yes, huge sums of cash and customers with plenty of disposable income are our #1 priority.

So lower your priorities and listen to this live recording of Rock and Roll Baby by the Traditional Fools at Jeff's New Years Eve party. If you listen close enough, you can hear Jeff drinking a 40 in the background. That's what I call Hi Fidelity!

Now dig down even lower to a song from the Mothballs' Come Out of the Closet. If you already have this record, its because they have only released one 7" in two and a half years. Maybe if you spend a couple of thrifty nickels here at Chocolate Covered Records, we can use that bag full of change to entice the Mothballs into putting out another one.

Dreamdate full length out soon?

Nov 18, 2006 at 10:06 PM

The Traditional Fools aren't happy with their 7" recordings and Dreamdate finally has their debut full-length mastered after almost a year. Out with the new and in with the old. Go figure.

Exclusive Recording Contract signed with the Traditional Fools

Sep 17, 2006 at 12:35 PM

Okay, so the deal isn't really exclusive and the "contract" consists only of "my label totally wants to put out a record by you guys." "Rad!" But Chocolate Covered Records inches itself closer to actually putting out its own records with what is guaranteed to be an ear bending 7" by the Traditional Fools. More info will be coming soon...

And definintely check out their video.

Lots and lots of photos
